Yong people who commit serious crimes, such as robbery or violent attack should be punished in the same way as adults. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Our society now is now facing an increasing level of juvenile delinquency, which is commonly concerned by the general population. According to some people, imposing the same punishment on them as what is done to the adult crimes would be an effective way to mitigate this problem.
They have some seemingly reasonable arguments of course and one of them is that if how to punish criminals is based on the magnitude of the influence underage crimes have on the society, then it would be justified that the youth who commit crimes deserve an equivalent treatment that the adults face. Such crimes such as murder or burglary are proved to jeopardize the stability of a society as it cases a great deal of fears. The same punishment would also have an added benefit that a deterrent could derive from it, which may prevent potential law breakers from committing crimes. In little likelihood, people would do harm to others taking the risk of being heavily punished.
However, those who believe that heavy treatment can eradicate the underage crimes may ignore the fact that the majority of the young are often break the law out of being spontaneously, this is not the case with adult criminals. In other words, the way the youth are punished is not fair to them. It would be too arbitrary if the government sentences one individual when they are not mature enough as what should be done to the mature. There are development issues to be concerned as well. Unlike most adults, the general underage do not have a clear view of their future life and who they want to be, and I believe that some punishing actions such as imprisoning may only exacerbate this problem. It is unfortunate that many young criminals choose to commit crimes again and again after they sit out of the jail.
In conclusion, putting the premature who make mistakes under torturing treatment is a short-sight measure to ease juvenile delinquency. Perhaps education-oriented strategies are more suitable for such cases.
